All features/Titles & meta

Perfect snippets across a thousand pages

Titles and descriptions are your ad copy in the search results, and on many sites they are missing, duplicated or truncated. SEOWing fixes them at scale: templates per post type, bulk edits with preview, AI-drafted descriptions from real page content.

Titles, meta descriptions, robots, canonical and Open Graph are in the free plan; bulk changes over MCP need Starter, the AI assistant in the admin needs Pro.

The problem at scale

Writing one good meta description takes two minutes. Writing four hundred takes two weeks nobody has, so they never get written, and Google improvises. Improvised snippets rarely say what you would have said.

What you get

Templates per post type

Patterns for posts, pages and archives, and over MCP for products or any custom post type, with variables for site name, category, author, date and, on WooCommerce products, price and SKU.

Bulk edits with preview

Fill missing titles and descriptions for many pages in one pass over MCP. A dry run lists every planned value before anything is written.

Open Graph & social previews

Titles, images and descriptions for social sharing, consistent with the search snippets, no separate plugin.

How it works

01

The audit finds the gaps

Missing, duplicate, too long, too short: every snippet problem is listed per page.

02

Draft from real content

The AI assistant or an MCP agent writes descriptions from what the page actually says.

03

Approve the batch

You review the dry-run result, approve, and the agent writes the batch. Values written with seo_bulk_update_meta are recorded in the audit log.

Your search snippets are pitching to customers every day. Give them copy that closes.

Titles and meta in detail

Title patterns and variables

You set title patterns once for posts, pages and category, tag, author and date archives; search and 404 pages have their own. The default is %title% %sep% %sitename%, with a separator you choose. Variables include %title%, %sitename%, %sitedesc%, %excerpt%, %date%, %modified%, %author%, %category%, %tag%, %focuskw%, %currentyear% and %term_title%; WooCommerce products add %price% and %sku%. Patterns are looked up per post type, so products or other custom types can get their own over MCP. Variables that do not resolve are removed instead of reaching Google as placeholders.

Per page: preview, robots, canonical and social

In the editor, the SEOWing box shows a search preview with character counters for title and description, plus focus and secondary keywords. The advanced tab sets robots directives (noindex, nofollow, noarchive, nosnippet) and a canonical URL; the social tab sets Open Graph title, description and image and the Twitter title and description. Without a manual description, the excerpt or the first 30 words of the content are used. Open Graph falls back to the SEO title, then to the featured image and a site-wide default image. Categories and tags have title, description and robots fields.

Bulk changes and safeguards

Over MCP, seo_bulk_update_meta writes titles, descriptions, focus keywords, robots and canonical for many posts in one call. seo_fix_meta_bulk fills only empty fields unless forced, rewrites titles over 60 characters, can include WPML and Polylang translations and offers a dry run that lists every planned value first. Its descriptions come from the excerpt or content, trimmed to 160 characters; for written copy, let the agent or the AI assistant draft. A meta guard restores SEO fields that a page builder save would otherwise empty.

Questions

How long should a meta title and meta description be?+

SEOWing's audit flags titles shorter than 30 or longer than 60 characters and meta descriptions shorter than 120 or longer than 160 characters. Within those ranges, the module recommends about 55 characters for titles and 155 for descriptions. The audit also lists pages with a missing value and pages that share the same title or description.

What does SEOWing output if a page has no meta description?+

On posts and pages it uses the manual excerpt, or the first 30 words of the content if there is none. Category and tag archives fall back to the term description, the homepage to the description in the general settings or the site tagline. A missing description still counts as a finding in the audit, so you can write a proper one.

Can I use a separate title template for WooCommerce products?+

Yes. SEOWing looks up the title pattern per post type, so products can have their own, for example with %price% or %sku%, which resolve from the WooCommerce product. The settings screen shows patterns for posts, pages and archives; a product pattern is set over MCP with seo_update_settings, which needs the Starter plan or higher.

Can I undo a bulk meta update?+

Autopilot runs can be rolled back: seo_auto_setup stores a snapshot of the settings and of each processed page's title, description, focus keyword and schema before writing, and seo_restore_snapshot restores it. Calls such as seo_bulk_update_meta create no snapshot, but the values they write are recorded in the audit log. Run a dry run before large changes.
